(CNN) — Halle Bailey is undoubtedly the woman (or little mermaid, if you will) of the moment, but it hasn’t been without a lot of effort on her part to achieve it.
The singer and actress, who currently plays Ariel in the live-action movie “The Little Mermaid,” shared this weekend on her instagram verified some revealing behind-the-scenes images from the filming of the Disney movie.
In the video, Bailey can be seen taking a break from filming, covered in small black dots that are used to help with motion capture in post-production on a special effects-heavy film. She has her hair covered with a shower cap and is eating a snack before returning to the recording.
“Today’s a hard day,” he says, going on to say that he’s been filming the signature sequence for the song “Part of Your World,” “for the last two days.”
He also mentions how the first two days were devoted to the beginning of the song and the first two verses, and how the third day will be about getting “through the rest of it, and it’s hard”.
“I’m shaking emotionally, because it’s such a desperate plea,” Bailey says of the emotions it takes to successfully sing and express Ariel’s longing to join the world above, the central engine of the entire story.
“And I’m sensitive, the song is hard to sing, and the song is hard to do in general,” he adds. “I try to show every emotion on my face and move the right way I’m supposed to.”
Then she is interrupted by the sound of her own voice singing the song. Bailey says she recorded her challenge moment so she could remember the job, which she now shares three years later.
Their efforts have paid off: Bailey’s performance as Disney’s undersea princess has received rave reviews, and the film’s box office enjoyed a sizable take over the holiday weekend.
Up next for Bailey will be playing young Nettie in “The Color Purple,” a film adaptation of the Broadway musical, itself a reboot of the classic 1985 film based on the Alice Walker novel. “The Color Purple” will hit theaters on Christmas Day.
