    Group stage completed at 2022 FIFA World Cup

    After 48 matches played between 20 November and 2 December in the World Cup, the teams that took the first 2 places in 8 groups advanced to the last 16 rounds.

    Netherlands, Senegal, England, USA, Argentina, Poland, France, Australia, Japan, Spain, Morocco, Croatia, Brazil, Switzerland, Portugal and South Korea qualified to play in the round of 16.

    Ecuador, Qatar, Iran, Wales, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Denmark, Germany, Costa Rica, Belgium, Canada, Cameroon, Serbia, Uruguay and Ghana said goodbye to the tournament in the group stage.

    Averaged 2.5 goals per game

    A total of 120 goals were scored in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.

    England and Spain were the top scorers of the group matches, with an average of 2.5 goals per match, each venting the nets 9 times.

    Group stage with the fewest goals scored in 12 years

    Qatar 2022 was recorded as the World Cup with the fewest goals scored in the group stage after South Africa 2010.

    When the group matches are taken into account, the teams aired the nets 101 times in 2010, while Brazil scored 136 goals in 2014 and 122 goals in Russia 2018.

    USA No team to make 3 out of 3 for the first time since 1994

    The 2022 FIFA World Cup drew attention as the tournament that did not have a team that made 3 out of 3 in the group stage after 28 years.

    In USA 1994, no team completed the group stage with 9 points. After this tournament, at least one team managed to pass the group matches without loss in the 6 World Cups held until 2022 in Qatar.

    Top scorer title in 5 players

    5 names shared the title of the player who scored the most goals in the group matches of the tournament in Qatar.

    Alvaro Morata from Spain, Kylian Mbappe from France, Marcus Rashford from England, Cody Gakpo from the Netherlands and Enner Valencia from Ecuador each scored 3 goals.

    166 yellow, 2 red cards

    In the 48 group matches played in Qatar 2022, the referees showed 166 yellow cards and 2 red cards.

    The team with the most cards in the group stage was Saudi Arabia (14). England, on the other hand, drew attention as the only team that did not get a card in this process.

    For the remainder of the tournament, Wales’ goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey and Cameroon’s striker Vincent Aboubakar were both penalized with red cards.

    3 coaches left

    The coach of 3 teams, who said goodbye to Qatar 2022 in the group stage, left his job.

    Roberto Martinez in Belgium, Otto Addo in Ghana and Gerardo Martino in Mexico left the post after the failure.

    Ronaldo, Messi and Neuer made history

    In the group stage of the 2022 World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer achieved new titles.

    Portuguese football player Ronaldo became the first player to score in 5 World Cups.

    Argentina’s star player Messi, one of the favorites of the tournament, was recorded as the first player to assist in 5 World Cups.

    Germany’s goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, became the goalkeeper with the most appearances in World Cup history with 19 times.

    First female referee

    French referee Stephanie Frappart served in the Costa Rica-Germany match. Frappart made history as the first female referee to officiate at the World Cup held since 1930.
