The home delivery company Glovo announced, this Monday, the dismissal of 250 workers, about 6.5% of its workforce, in a decision that the management says is “necessary” and that does not impact the activity. in Portugal.
In a message sent to workers and quoted by Efe, the chairman of the Board of Directors of Glovo, Oscar Pierre, says that these cuts “were not in the plans six months ago” and that they are inevitable for a good evolution of the company.
“We have tried to avoid redundancies at all costs, evaluating various scenarios, reducing costs and improving economic efficiency in the last nine months to pave the way for the future”, said the leader of the company that belongs to the German group Delivery Hero.
For now, redundancies do not affect workers or impact activity in Portugal.
“In Portugal, we will not have any impact and we do not foresee any disruption in our operations”, says the company in a note sent to Lusa, in which it adds that its commitment remains “unchanged”.
Glovo’s statement adds that the decision has a major impact on the company’s headquarters in Barcelona.
“This decision has an impact mainly on our headquarters in Barcelona, in areas of business support, recruitment and data. Only some local markets will be impacted by this decision, with reductions limited to single digits”, reiterates the note, which underlines that “none courier, ‘picker’ or front-line employee will be affected”.
