The Regueifa Fair and the 19th Century Biscoito & Market are back, in Valongo. Mickael Carreira and Aurea are strong names on the musical line-up for the event, which starts on Wednesday and runs until June 4th.

For five days, the central core of the city will be celebrating. In addition to the live production and sale of biscuits and regueifa, there will be gastronomic demonstrations, exhibitions, theatre, historical recreations and handicrafts, among other initiatives.

The official opening of the fair will be marked by the Allegorical Parade, at 2.30 pm, which brings together hundreds of children from schools in the municipality. The program includes several historical recreations and the bread blessing ceremony in the Nossa Senhora das Neves Chapel, on the 2nd of June.

On the 3rd of June, at 3.30 pm, the Confraria do Pão Parade and Chapter Ceremony will take place, starting at the Regueifa and Biscoito de Valongo Workshop and continuing on to the Town Hall. The procession of Santo António dos Almocreves is scheduled for 8 pm.

The last day will be marked by the Contest for the Best Regueifa and Cookie at Feira 2023.

Among the novelties of this year’s program are “the videomapping show at the mother church of Valongo and the launch of the new hymn of regueifa, with lyrics and music by José Manuel Carvalho and orchestration by Salomão Abreu, which will be sung by Gisela Afonso” .

The main stage will feature Marta Ren (May 31), Creature (June 1), Wilson Honrado (June 2), Aurea (June 3) and Mickael Carreira (June 4).

But visitors will also be able to count on musical entertainment from the groups Gaitifarra, Drama e Beiço, Sopraki, Gaitas Sirigaitas and Trupe dos Almeidas.

According to José Manuel Ribeiro, mayor of Valongo, the “Fair of Regueifa and the Biscuit & Market of the 19th century is, without a doubt, a winning bet”. “That’s why we are investing more and more in this event, which has an ever-increasing adherence by the community and very positive results in the local economic fabric”, adds the mayor, in a statement from the Municipality.

Traffic will be closed at Largo do Centenário, Rua de S. Mamede, Praça Dr. Nunes da Ponte, Senra Park and Rua de Sousa Paupério.

The complete program can be consulted at site of the Municipality of Valongo.
