A collision between two light vehicles this Tuesday morning in Santiago do Cacém caused eight injuries, three adults and five children, including a baby under one year old and four minors aged between five and seven years.
The injuries were considered minor, none required major care, despite one of the vehicles having overturned, advanced to JN Vítor Tomás, commander of the corps of Cercal do Alentejo.
The collision between the two vehicles took place at 11.10 am at an intersection on the National Road 120-1 in the town of Sonega, municipality of Santiago do Cacém. One of the vehicles, which was carrying an adult woman with two children, overturned. The second vehicle involved in the collision was carrying two female adults and three children, one of whom was a baby.
When firefighters arrived, the injured were conscious and had abrasions, but none of them had serious injuries. The baby and a woman, mother and child, were transported to the Hospital de São Bernardo, in Setúbal, because the Hospital do Litoral Alentejano, in Santiago do Cacém, does not have pediatrics, said Vítor Tomás. The remaining injured were transported to the local hospital where they received treatment for their injuries.
In the theater of operations, 23 elements were involved, supported by ten fire engines from Cercal do Alentejo, Santiago do Cacém and Sines. The emergency and resuscitation medical vehicle of the Hospital do Litoral Alentejano and the GNR of Santiago do Cacém also arrived at the scene. The road was cut during relief operations.
