A fire destroyed, earlier this Tuesday night, a house located in Mouraria, the old part of Beja, which would be occupied by six immigrant citizens linked to seasonal agricultural work.
The flames, which broke out around 6:30 pm, damaged the entire residence, which will be uninhabitable. As it was possible to ascertain, when the fire started, the house, located on Rua das Portas de Moura, was occupied by workers, tenants of the space.
The house is surrounded by many houses and, despite being located in an area with very narrow streets, which do not allow access to heavy vehicles, the prompt arrival of PSP agents with fire extinguishers and the muscular intervention of the Fire Department of Beja prevented the flames from spread to other houses.
At the site was the councilor of the Chamber of Beja, Rui Marreiros, who confirmed to JN that “there was no request for relocation of the people who occupied the house that burned”.
The fire, whose causes will be investigated, was declared extinguished at 20.20 hours, having been fought by 39 operatives from the Fire Department of Beja and Serpa and PSP, supported by fourteen vehicles.
