(CNN Spanish) – This Friday, CNN en Español exclusively recorded the images of Joran Van der Sloot’s departure from the Challapalca prison in Tacna, Peru, bound for another prison in Lima, from where he will later be handed over to United States authorities for transfer to that country.
The images show how Van der Sloot leaves the area of the inmates’ cells, is searched and handcuffed before being transferred to an office where he signs some documents and is evaluated by a prison doctor. After that, he got into a vehicle from the National Penitentiary Institute in which he was transferred by land, around 11 pm local time, to the Ancón I maximum security prison in Lima.
Van der Sloot, one of the last people to see the American Natalee Holloway alive, will be handed over to Interpol Peru and then to the US authorities to be prosecuted for the alleged crimes of fraud and extortion against Elizabeth Holloway, mother of Natalee. The citizen of the Netherlands is serving a 28-year prison sentence in Peru, to which he was sentenced in 2012 for murdering 21-year-old Stephany Flores in 2010.
Challapalca, where Van der Sloot was located, is one of the 3 maximum security prisons in Peru and is located in the south, in the Tacna region, at more than 4,500 meters above sea level and with temperatures below zero degrees Celsius at night. .
