Distance or online education for Ukrainian children should be organized by the schools themselves. And school principals are key in this organization.
As for quality, today distance education in Ukraine is ready for teaching children “at the level of software”.
Educational ombudsman Serhii Gorbachev said about this on TSN.19:30.
“The school should organize distance learning for children, and children have the right to choose, or rather, their parents at this age. And the school must ensure this,” he said.
“I understand very well how difficult it is now for school principals and education authorities, because in one institution there may be a different number of those who want to study offline and online. Perhaps it makes sense to organize some generalized groups for distance learning. Because when the remote control is used, it doesn’t matter where the child is physically located. But when it comes to face-to-face training, we really need to look for options and ensure that it is in place,” the ombudsman said.
He added that the position of the Ministry of Education is that in any school students have the right to study both offline and online at the same time.
“That is, it is necessary to create groups, classes, make transfers. But it is quite difficult. It is very necessary to work in the first weeks, see what we have, and react quickly, amend the current legislationso that we have the ability to flexibly provide for children’s need for quality education,” Gorbachev said.
Regarding the quality of education, he does not share “the pessimism about unpreparedness for distance education at the software level.”
“We have a wonderful platform “Ukrainian School Online”. We have quite advanced and developed Microsoft and Google platforms. They can be used. The problem is, first of all, that it is necessary to have a sufficient number of trained teachers, and we are doing it,” said the educational ombudsman.
He added that school principals are the key people in the organization of distance learning.
We will remind, earlier the Minister of Education Serhii Shkarlet assured that the legislation specifies all the algorithms of actions regarding the education of each child either offline, online, or using a mixed system.
