kinesa throws the Netflix of theaters so that the spectators return to the rooms. The Spanish company founded in 1944 has announced that it will offer a monthly film subscription from 15.90 euros. This is the Unlimited Card plan. With it, customers will be able to see the premieres of the films “as many times as they want throughout the year,” according to Ramón Biarnés, managing director of the Odeon Cinemas group, of which Cinesa, a company dedicated to film exhibitions, is a part.
The new subscription model will be officially presented in April and will be gradually activated from that month onwards in all the company’s cinemas. Unlimited Card will be available in two formats: Standard (15.90 euros per month) and Luxe (18.90 euros per month and offers the same as the Standard, but includes the Luxe rooms of the chain, of higher quality). It also offers the slightly cheaper option of buying an annual subscription (149 euros for the Standard and 189 for the Luxe).
“At Cinesa we are always committed to offering viewers new formulas for film consumption that adapt to their needs and that respond to the transformation of a constantly changing sector. With the launch of Unlimited Card, we take another step in our commitment to our customers, which will allow them to enjoy the best premieres unlimited and, as always, in the best possible way: on a big screen, with the best image and sound technology and from the comfort of his seat”, explained Biarnés.
With this launch, the chain challenges Netflix and other streaming whose prices, increasingly higher, are close to that of the Unlimited Card. Everything indicates that it is a strategy to recover the viewers that they lost during the rise of on-demand television and due to the pandemic. In the latest Survey of Cultural Habits and Practices 2021, published by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in September 2022, it was estimated that just over a quarter of the spectators (27.7%) who attended theaters before the covid they had done it in the last year.
Cinesa has 38 cinemas and 457 rooms in the national territory. The 14 cinemas in Madrid and 7 in Barcelona stand out. The Odeon Cinemas group is the largest exhibitor in Europe. It has a presence in nine countries through more than 290 cinemas, 2,500 screens and more than 9,000 employees. In 2016, the group was acquired by AMC Theatres, thus becoming the largest film exhibition company in the world.
