CIA director Burns accuses Turkey of endangering US military in Syria
US CIA director William Burns accused Ankara of posing a threat to the US military, pointing to recent Turkish airstrikes in northern Syria. He conveyed his concerns to the head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization, Hakan Fidan, according to the Axios portal.
CIA Director Bill Burns spoke out with his Turkish counterpart against recent Turkish artillery and airstrikes in northern Syria, warning that they endanger US forces.
It is noted that Burns also called on the Turkish side to refrain from conducting a ground operation.
Earlier, Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar called on the United States to show understanding ahead of a possible military operation by Ankara in Syria. The request was made after Washington criticized the Turkish authorities for preparing for hostilities.
