Champions League: scenes of chaos around the Stade de France, a failing organization?

The Champions League final on Saturday May 28 was marked by incidents near the Stade de France. The police, overwhelmed, used tear gas. The chaotic organization questions France’s ability to host major sporting events.

The Stade de France (Seine-Saint-Denis) hosted the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool on Saturday May 28. More than two hours before kick-off, the situation became tense at the gates reserved for England supporters, and gate Z was closed. She tensed up more when thousands of supporters realized that they could not enter the stadium on time, after having paid their ticket, for some for months.

Others never made it. “It was my most prized possession. I protected it all day, and now it’s a worthless piece of paper. I am deeply disappointed. I just wasted money“, laments a man. “The fans did nothing, and we are treated like animals“, adds another. In the aftermath of the chaos, the French authorities implicated the trafficking of counterfeit tickets, and overwhelmed the organizer of the event, UEFA. The supporters of Liverpool (United Kingdom) accuse them of gangs of young people, who allegedly assaulted some of them.
