Car going the wrong way on A1 leaves one dead and two injured

A driver who was driving the wrong way on Sunday on the A1 motorway, in the Cartaxo area, Santarém, died and caused two minor injuries who were traveling in another vehicle, the GNR general command told Lusa.

The accident, whose alert was given at 22.18 hours on Sunday, occurred in the South-North direction, forcing the diversion of traffic to the Aveiras junction.

The 58-year-old driver was traveling alone in the vehicle, according to the GNR.

Several rescue teams from the districts of Lisbon and Santarém were mobilized to the site.
