Municipality had equipment for 104 children, five times more than recommended. Seventeen of the 257 will be scrapped for lack of conditions.
The Municipality of Braga is combing through all the children’s playgrounds in the county, after an activist warned of the state of degradation of equipment in several parishes. Of the 257 parks counted, 17 have already been dismantled, but there are more spaces that will come to an end and may not be rebuilt. According to councilor Olga Pereira, “Braga has a disproportionate number of playgrounds in relation to the population”.
Based on the population aged zero to 14 (26,756 people), the county had one playground for every 104 children. A ratio almost five times higher than what the latest studies by specialists point out, such as the professor at the University of Minho, Beatriz Pereira, who defined as recommendable “one playground for every 500 children”.
