16 years have passed since the last time Björk performed in Madrid: It was in 2007 in the Las Ventas bullring, as part of her album tour back. Since then I had chosen Barcelona as a stopover in Spain. That’s where his previous tour passed, Utopia Tour, in May 2018, within the Primavera Sound festival.
But a few minutes ago the dates of the 2023 European tour were announced. At the moment only five live shows in the month of September. Two in Italy, one in Poland, another in the Czech Republic and one in Spain. On September 4, Björk will perform at the Wizink Center in Madrid, a space with a capacity for 17,000 spectators.
cornucopia is a theatrical show that Björk has defined as “digital theater or science fiction pop”. Directed by Argentine filmmaker Lucrecia Martel, it has toured 12 cities since it opened in New York in May 2019. Billed as “Björk’s most elaborate concert to date,” it has included a 50-member Icelandic choir, a chamber custom reverb, video projections, 360-degree sound, multiple custom-made instruments, some used for only a few moments, intricate handcrafted masks by James Merry, and costumes designed largely by Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing. The repertoire has changed depending on the performance, but presumably it will now include pieces from her latest album, Fossora, posted in september.
In March he will resume his tour with concerts in Australia and Japan, where he combines cornucopia with his other live show: Orchestral Bjork, a kind of greatest hits in orchestral version. then it will go through the American festival Coachella in April.
