A Palestinian died of wounds sustained in the Israeli military raid on the occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Thursday, bringing to 11 the Palestinians killed in clashes that day, which triggered a rise in violence in the area.
The fatal victim was identified as Omar Tareq Saadi by the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), which stated, through a statement, that he was shot in the stomach during the incidents on Thursday.
Saadi becomes the tenth person to die during the violent raid in Jenin, which sparked massive protests in the area where another Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli security forces.
The raid, the deadliest in recent years and described by the PNA as a “massacre”, was aimed at arresting a Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) squad in the Jenin refugee camp, the focus of Palestinian armed struggle in the occupied West Bank and the main focus of violence in the area during the past year.
The Israeli incursion led to violent armed clashes, which included militia and civilian casualties and left 20 Palestinians wounded.
Following these incidents, the ANP announced the suspension of security cooperation with Israel and Palestinian militias in the Gaza Strip launched rockets into Israeli territory.
These violent actions followed two days of violence in the area, marked by a major Palestinian attack on Friday on a settlement in occupied East Jerusalem, which left seven Israeli civilians dead.
More attacks and attempted attacks by Palestinians on Israelis were reported on Saturday, as Jewish settlers attacked multiple Palestinian properties and vehicles in different communities in the occupied West Bank.
Recent episodes have increased the death toll in 2023 to 34 Palestinians and seven Israelis.
