A seven-year-old girl was bitten this Thursday afternoon by a pit bull in Leomil, in the municipality of Moimenta da Beira.
The accident took place at the victim’s family home around 3:45 pm. The dog, which is a breed considered dangerous and which belongs to the girl’s uncle, attacked the child after she was scared and screamed.
According to INEM, the victim, considered “serious” but not in danger of life, was bitten in the face and hit in the skull. “She was stabilized by our teams. There was no facial involvement,” the source added.
She was first assisted at the Basic Emergency Service of Moimenta da Beira and then heliported by INEM to the Pediatric Hospital of Coimbra, sources from the District Relief Operations Command of Viseu and the GNR told JN.
The animal has the documentation up to date and is “in quarantine” with the municipal veterinarian, said the GNR.
