“The person who died at the scene is a 15-year-old boy,” police spokeswoman Towe Hagg told AFP. Another 15-year-old and a man and a woman between the ages of 45 and 65 were injured.
A motive for the shots in the Stockholm suburb of Farsta is not yet known. Two fugitives gave themselves a chase with the police. They were arrested about an hour after the crime. The police are investigating a murder.
Already on Friday, three people were injured by gunfire in two different incidents in the capital region. From the beginning of the year to the end of May there had already been 144 gun incidents in Sweden, including 52 in the greater Stockholm area. 18 people were killed, 10 of them in the capital alone.
Sweden has struggled with a rise in gun violence and bombings for years. The southern edge of Stockholm is particularly badly affected. Criminal gangs are held responsible for the crimes, and they settle accounts with each other in connection with the drug trade.
